A New 'Star Wars' Villain Has Been Revealed!

Move Over, Vader: New 'Star Wars' Villain Revealed!
By Robert Chan

It says "Rebels" in the title, but make no mistake about it: We're here to see the Empire.

This weekend at New York Comic Con, we got a first look at the new animated TV series "Star Wars Rebels" (debuting on Disney XD in 2014) with a video of "Rebels" executive producer Dave Filoni revealing a number of new/old designs (many are based on original, unseen work from the '70s) for Stormtroopers, Imperials, ships and walkers.

But the biggest reveal was The Inquisitor. "Tasked by Darth Vader to hunt down the remaining Jedi Knights," he bears a lot of resemblance to Darth Maul, the only character killed off way too soon in the prequels. (Imagine how much less whining those movies would have had if Anakin had just wiped out in the pod race.) He even has what looks to be like a double-bladed lightsaber. But his black outfit also suggests he visited Vader's tailor before heading out for some Jedi bashing.

The Empire are such amazing villains — most of the time, we think of them as the rubes who let their Death Star get blown up twice — but we still love them. Filoni says. "When we were at Celebration Europe, the Star Destroyer version from 'Rebels' came up and it got the biggest cheer out of everything we showed. And it really showed me how much fans loved the Empire. They're great bad guys."

Fans are already sharing their diverse opinions on the new baddie. One fan on TheForce.net wrote, "I hate to say this so soon, but the Inquisitor guy sounds like a knockoff of Starkiller," while another added, "I'm a bit concerned while trying to remain excited. I was hoping the show would focus on Vader himself hunting down the Jedi, and I don't want there to be so many Jedi around the time of ANH since Tarkin says they are 'all extinct.'"

Oh, Hey Fitz: Tony Goldwyn WWD’s ‘M’ Fall 2013 Interview

By Danielle Kwateng @danispecialk on October 8, 2013, 9:00am

Tony Goldwyn Scandal – interview

Everything we needed to know about Tony Goldwyn we read in WWD M magazine’s recent interview with the “Scandal” star. Having come from a strong lineage of Hollywood men, the classically trained actor talks about his upbringing and current projects outside of the hit ABC show.

For the spread, Goldwyn wore a mix of American, British and Italian designers –Ralph Lauren, Burberry, Giorgio Armani– looking straight out of a “Old Spice” ad. Debonaire with his sleek brush back, strong jaw line, and piercing eyes, it’s no wonder that the 53-year-old has become America’s newest .

Q&A

On his electrifying chemistry with Kerry Washington:
“Our sex scenes are really intense. But so is our relationship. For Kerry and me, it’s no different than doing an emotional scene. It’s just more awkward, almost in the anticipation of it. Once we start doing it, we commit. You’re lost in the scene.. Kerry and I connect on a lot of levels.”

On how his wife of 26 years feels about his role:
“My wife’s cool. She’s in the business, I’ve been doing this a long time. Jane’s thrilled for the success of the show, and we’re all professionals, you know.”

On his relationship with his grandfather:
“I was almost 14 when he died. He was very old—he was 94—when he died, but we were really close, yeah. I think I share certain aesthetic sensibilities with him. This is a guy who walked from Poland and made his way to America on foot, with one suit of clothing, at age 15. He was a tough son of a Beyotch. And the most charming man ever.”

On how his grandfather would feel about him playing the president:
“I think he’d be really thrilled and proud at that, because he would think it had stature, and he would be excited about the career I’ve forged for myself. Because my grandfather was a survivor. He overcame extraordinary adversity. He understood that this is a business of surviving and hanging in there.”

It is, by far, the biggest stage that Cruz has had for one of his bouts. To take advantage of the exposure, Cruz plans to wear pink boxing gloves and a pink-trimmed ring jacket to help show support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

But Cruz, boxing's first openly gay fighter, will also wear rainbow-colored trunks, to support the LGBT movement. The rainbow flag is a symbol of the movement and was created in 1978 in San Francisco to urge inclusiveness for all.

Everlast made the trunks and the gloves in collaboration with Cruz.

Cruz, who is scheduled to marry boyfriend Jose Manuel in New York on Nov. 16, is 20-2-1 with 10 knockouts. Salido is 39-12-2 with 27 KOs.

They will meet for the vacant WBO featherweight championship.

Awesome Parenting News

Today in awesome parenting news: A father, who learned that his daughter disowned his grandson because he was gay, responded in the most amazing way.

Dear Christine,

I’m disappointed in you as a daughter. You’re correct that we have a “shame in the family”, but mistaken about what it is. Kicking Chad out of your home simply because he told you he was gay is the real “abomination” here. A parent disowning her child is what goes “against nature.” The only intelligent thing I heard you saying in all this was that “you didn’t raise your son to be gay." Of course you didn’t. He was born this way and didn’t choose it any more than he being left-handed. You however, have made a choice of being hurtful, narrow-minded and backward. So, while we are in the business of disowning our children, I think I’ll take this moment to say goodbye to you. I now have a fabulous (as the gays put it) grandson to raise, and I don’t have time for heart-less B-word of a daughter. If you find your heart, give us a call.

– Dad.

The letter was posted on Monday to the pro-gay youth organization FCKH8's Facebook page. It received more than 5,000 shares, 11,000 likes, and 600 comments. "We are going to be sending his grandpa a free 'Straight Against Hate' tee for being such an awesome example and inspiring so many," FCKH8 spokesperson Luke Montgomery tells Yahoo Shine. "The world needs more parents and grandparents like this who know that the true 'sin' is rejecting your own children just for them being gay."

Many parents get it and are expressing their unconditional love in various ways, from penning heartfelt letters to posting Facebook updates that have quickly gone viral.

In September, when Michelle Conway McClain from Union, Missouri, learned that her son had come out on Facebook, she posted a response on her own page: "Zach, I was surprised by your Facebook post where you came out. I want you to know that I love you unconditionally. I love you with my actions, not just my words. I'm so proud of you. You are the bravest person I know. I'll fight for you always. Your sexual orientation does not define you. You are still the boy who forever won my heart. The only thing that concerns me is the number of empty soda cups and tea bottles in your room. Throw them away before ants come inside. I love you always, Mom."

In March, a
father who overheard his son contemplating how to reveal his sexuality, intercepted him with this note: "I overheard your phone conversation with Mike last night about your plans to come out to me. The only thing I need you to plan is to bring home OJ and bread after class. We are out, like you now. I've known you were gay since you were six, I've loved you since you were born. PS: Your mom and I think you and Mike make a cute couple." The letter was also posted on FCKH8's Facebook page.

And in January, a 15-year-old named Laurel came out to her parents by baking them a cake (she called it a "gayke") with a message that in part read, "Your acceptance would be the icing on the cake." Then, they ate cake.
